Do I Have Schizophrenia?

From a teen in the U.S.: My mental disturbances have been getting progressively worse, and I am beginning to suspect schizophrenia. I only took notice of these disturbances when I began ruminating over things I had done in the past, and began convincing myself I was going to be arrested for these things. At first I thought it was OCD, because I was diagnosed at a very young age, but now I’ not sure that’s the overall issue.Over the past 2 months I have convinced myself with 100% certainty that I’m responsible for the deaths of multiple people, but I just don’t remember it. Despicable acts will randomly pop into my head and I’ll become certain that I’ve been responsible for them in the past. It’s at the point where I believe that even though I am a minor, the federal government is going to execute me because I’ve done such horrible things. This has also led to my belief that God is going to punish me and has tried to kill me in the past because ultimately he knows what I’ve done.As a r…

Resolving Anger

Our anger has many sources. Trauma, grief, frustration, and shame can all slowly reshape themselves into anger. When unresolved, these complex emotions can become stuck in our minds and bodies, leaving us feeling bitter, ungrateful, unhappy, and sick. In today's meditation, we address and resolve our anger. Using a timed breathing technique, we shake loose emotions that have become stuck in our bodies, creating space for more useful, creative energy. Please note: while it is important in this meditation to acknowledge whatever we are feeling, it is not necessary to relive or detail any experience. Sexual Issue with My Spouse

I am wondering if this is normal or something that I should be concerned about (To be clear, I’m not afraid for safety.), if it’s an issue that needs attention. My husband has ocd, ADHD, and a mild form of turrets. He doesn’t like wetness (no wet kisses, absolutely zero desire to have anything to do with a vagina). He’s a butt liking guy. He seems to be put off by sex itself as he wants to converse the entire time about my thong and sometimes even pretending to have one of us get shot or stabbed in the belly. Nothing can be mentioned about sex. It’s all about the thong, and scenarios of getting stabbed or shot. He can’t keep an erection without this. It’s so unfulfilling for me as I only have my imagination that he’s being normal, passionate and enjoying all of me in bed. For me to get anywhere myself, I need this imagination and certain maneuvers for stimulation. When he requires constant talking from me, I can’t even have that. (Though he gets upset if I don’t climax first. This gen…

Brain Imaging Shows How LSD Alters Perception

In a new study, researchers from the University of Zurich in Switzerland used brain imaging technology to investigate how LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide, or “acid”) appears to alter a healthy person’s perception of reality. They found that LSD triggers a reduction in the communication between brain regions responsible for planning and decision making. At the same time, it increases the connectivity in brain networks associated with sensory functions and movement.Based on patterns of brain signals, the scientists were also able to establish that the changes in brain connectivity caused by LSD are linked to a particular receptor in the brain (serotonin-2A receptor).“When we blocked this receptor using ketanserin, LSD stopped having an effect,” said Dr. Katrin Preller, lead author of the study, who is currently also a visiting professor at Yale University. The findings may offer insights into how some psychiatric  disorders develop and how these could be treated. For example, disturbances…

Suicide Far Outpaces Homicide in US, But Perception Is Just The Opposite

Suicide is twice as common as homicide in the U.S. — and more often involves firearms — but most Americans get it backwards. In a new study, researchers suggest news reports, movies and TV shows may contribute to the perception of a high risk of firearm homicide. Unfortunately, this creates a substantial gap between ideas and reality, and could lead to further danger. The new study, led by the University of Washington, Northeastern University and Harvard University, delves into public perceptions of gun violence and the leading causes of death in the U.S.The report, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, seeks to facilitate national public discussions about firearm ownership and storage.“This research indicates that in the scope of violent death, the majority of U.S. adults don’t know how people are dying,” said Erin Morgan, lead author and doctoral student in the Department of Epidemiology at the UW School of Public Health.“Knowing that the presence of a firearm increases the ri…

How Do I Get Motivated to Do School Work?

From a teen in the U.S.: ever since I was young, in school i skimped on my school work. There is an “Elegant Way” to End Global Prohibition Agreements

Trapped in Cycle of Mood Swings Because I’m Not “Bad Enough”

I have a history of mental health issues, and they run in my family. As a child, I couldn’t access care because my parents wouldn’t allow it. I self-harmed and suffered suicidal thoughts. While my brother had his own mental health struggles and developed drug/alcohol issues and delinquent record, so he got court ordered counseling.
As an adult, I’ve had unreliable food and shelter and been sexually assaulted. I can’t afford to attend college and pay for food/rent/bills even with financial aid, let alone doctors or therapy. While my brother’s criminal record has only grown, landing him in a fancy rehabilitation facility for 6 months to avoid jail.
Of course I love my brother and I’m happy to see him getting the support he needs, but it’s always hurt to watch his problems being acknowledged and healed because he was violent and criminally inclined, while I struggle to even support myself and can’t even get out of bed.
It seems like the only programs out there are designed for criminals …

Veterans with PTSD Can Benefit from Horseback Riding Intervention

A new study shows that an 8-week therapeutic horseback riding program reduces anxiety, anger and depression in veterans with combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).The findings have important implications as combat-related PTSD in military service personnel remains a national public health concern with an estimated 2 to 17 percent of veterans suffering from the disorder.Veterans who participated in the therapeutic riding program showed clinically significant improvements in depression and post-traumatic stress symptoms compared to those who did not participate.“PTSD is difficult to treat. But those who went through the program reported lessening of symptoms and better mental health,” said lead author Beth A. Lanning, Ph.D., associate chair and associate professor of public health in Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences at Baylor University in Texas.“The veterans felt less anxious, depressed, angry and isolated than before the intervention,” she said. “They indica…
