Expectations and Anger Issues Connected with Stress

Is it wrong of me to expect my wife to come through on her words given me on her own with out me asking for it and if not get angry? Example she asked me to pay rent starting 2nd month our lease (even tho before we got the place we agreed to split it 2/3 me 1/3 her) cuz as she says I make more money even though my business almost went bankrupt a few month before (now is better but still isn’t easy which costs me a lot of stress) and offered in exchange to pay for all house bills and groceries and then I did have to pay water bills and for some if not most groceries anyway. I’m generous and I’m ok to step up when I see is needed just dont like to be asked for it and that what she said she would do in exchange wasn’t happening for the most part. In addition to it I feel not listened and heard and she forgets (not this) a lot small things I’ve been telling her, like putting food away and storage it properly so it doesn’t go bad. I love her and we are a young marriage that is learning but…

Why I fight to save Obamacare

In 2011, when I was 25 – and just three weeks away from college graduation – I felt pain in my right knee that wouldn’t go away. I was an avid runner and was leading a healthy lifestyle, and that’s why I thought I had just twisted my knee. But a visit to my doctor didn’t reveal a torn ligament, a sprain or a fractured kneecap. At age 25, an MRI of my knee revealed a tumor. I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer usually found in children and adolescents.I was in shock. No one expects to be diagnosed with cancer, let alone at 25. “Twenty-five-year-olds don’t get cancer,” I thought. That news was devastating. Instead of traveling overseas to join the Peace Corp after graduation, I began a year of treatment that included nine rounds of chemotherapy and five surgeries.Obamacare saved my lifeBut there was some good news: First, we had found the cancer early and it was treatable. And just as important, I was fortunate to have been diagnosed in the age of Obamacare. Thanks…

New Phase of Life / Depression, Insight Needed

Hey there! Just to point this out in advance, I am seeing a few professionals about my mental health, I’m on medication and I’ve already been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, PDD-NOS, and potentially ADHD. I do not have the means to explore these further, but I have regular monthly visits with my psychiatrist and therapist.I’m currently dealing with drug abuse, my anxiety-fueled fight or flight response has led me to self-terminate from several jobs, and I typically carry really low self-esteem and distrust for myself and everyone around me. My social skills are acceptable, but I’ve adopted several toxic behaviors that lead me to manipulate, hurt, and abuse others. This is pretty self-destructive considering I’m also incredibly lonely and have no friends. I spent way too much time obsessing over perfectionism and believed I wouldn’t deserve to be loved otherwise.Since failing high school, the only things I strived for is daily drug use and sexual stimulation. My therapist the…

New Approach May Improve Prediction of Young Adult Suicide Risk

Although suicide is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. among those aged 15 to 34 years, the ability to predict suicidal behavior is still only slightly better than chance. Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine believe a new method may better detect those at high risk by tracking the fluctuation and severity of depressive symptoms. The researchers believe the new strategy is much better at predicting risk of suicidal behavior in at-risk young adults than using psychiatric diagnoses alone.Their findings, which include the description of a new Prediction Risk Score, appear in JAMA Psychiatry. Researchers believe the new tool will help clinicians better identify patients at risk for suicidal behavior and facilitate earlier intervention than the current standard.“Predicting suicidal behavior is one of the most challenging tasks in psychiatry, but for an outcome that is so life-threatening, it is definitely not acceptable that we’re only doing slightly b…

Am I a Psychopath or Anxious?

From a teen in Canada:  I often feel extremely worried on whether I’m a psychopath. I feel empathy and remorse. When I was eight I had done something terrible to an animal and it ended up killing it by accident and I haven’t been able to let this go. I’m not entirely sure if this is guilt I feel, because I feel really bad about this. I have had past childhood trauma too.I also have major suicidal tendencies and self-harm behaviors. I have thoughts like, (NOT ACTING ON THESE) “What would happen if I killed someone?” is this normal? I all honesty I’m more harmful towards myself then others. But I also hear inner voices and never outside of my head. When I speak to myself its usually negative and in third person. Is this normal?Because of  the thing with the animal I have got myself convinced im a psychopath. One incident does not define someone as a psychopath. You can probably rule it out since you do feel remorse. Accidents do happen. However, I’m very concerned about your self-harming …

Yeast produce low-cost, high-quality cannabinoids

Synthetic biologists have created an enzymatic network in yeast that turns sugar into cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol, but also novel cannabinoids not found in the marijuana plant itself. The yeast factories would be more environmentally friendly and less energy intensive than growing the plant and separating out the psychoactive and non-psychoactive ingredients. They may also yield cannabinoid derivatives with unexpected medical uses.

How Do I Get Over This Trust Issue?

I started dating my boyfriend almost 2 years ago. At that time, he was a student living in a student’s house of 6, and two of his housemates are his close friends(a guy and a girl. The girl is around my age while the guy is a lot younger). They liked to hang out together, especially my boyfriend and this girl whose rooms happened to be next to each other. In the beginning, my relationship with these two friends was ok. The guy welcomed me with open arms to their circles, however, the girl was a bit distant. I noticed that she liked to ask my boyfriend to come to her room whenever she had problems (mostly family and relationship issues) to talk to him. She looked uncomfortable whenever I was around, which happened to be a lot.
After a few months coming there, she finally spoke to my boyfriend that she felt uneasy having us there. Since her room is next to my boyfriend, she could not find peace since we giggled and made jokes a lot in my boyfriend’s room. She also mentioned that it would…

Long Works Hours May Hike Depression Risk in Women

A UK study provides new evidence that working very long hours (more than 55 hours/week) is associated with an increased risk of depression among women. Moreover, working weekends was found to be associated with an increased risk of depression in both sexes.Investigators note that the expansion of the global economy and the expansion of gig economies (employment by independent contractors for defined time intervals) has driven the need to work outside standard office hours. These non-traditional occupational settings have been linked to poorer physical health. However, the potential impact on mental health is less well known. And research to date has largely focused on men and/or on specific jobs, say researchers. The study seeks to provide insight on these area with researchers using data from Understanding Society, the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS). This tool has been tracking the health and well-being of a representative sample of 40,000 households across the UK since 2009.R…

Fetal Nicotine Exposure Tied to Higher Risk for ADHD

Women who smoke during pregnancy may be increasing their child’s risk of developing attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to a new study conducted by the Research Centre for Child Psychiatry at the University of Turku in Finland. For the study, the researchers measured levels of cotinine — the predominant metabolite in nicotine — in the mother’s blood during pregnancy. The findings show that higher blood levels of cotinine were tied to a greater risk for the child’s later development of ADHD.The study is the first to link prenatal nicotine exposure and ADHD by measuring cotinine levels in maternal blood samples.“All previous studies on the topic were based on maternal self-report of smoking that has been shown to underestimate the true rates of smoking. The disclosure of smoking is even lower among pregnant smokers,” said Adjunct Professor Roshan Chudal from the Research Centre for Child Psychiatry at the University of Turku. For the study, cotinine was used as a bi…

Uncontrolled Negative Thought Creeps in Even Though I Don’t Want It

I have a mind which pokes me unnecessarily with negative rubbish. I know a negative thought will come – and I say myself DON’T think about it – but, I give in and the thought pokes me and “pulls me down”.Example, if I am eating peacefully, I will remember a friend who humiliated me for eating too much. If I am talking to a girl, I remember a friend who bullied me because he was jealous. If I am confidently doing something, I remember someone who unnecessarily mocked me and I start losing confidence. If I look at a girl who is attractively dressed, totally unnecessarily, Iy mind says – ‘u have a daughter, one day even she will wear something like this’, and equally unnecessarily a forceful thought comes up and brings my daughter in such an outfit and I am begging for the thought ‘not to come’. The more I beg, surely, it comes. If my dad is unwell, out of the blue, my mind says, ‘let him die, there will be no responsibility, u will be free’. And I know it is not true as I love my dad beyo…

Ga. Mom Allegedly Made Healthy 5-Year-Old Use Feeding Tube, Wheelchair to Collect State Checks

Authorities allege a Georgia mother subjected her 5-year-old son to unnecessary medical procedures and had him taking medications he didn’t need in order to collect benefits from the state.Records obtained by PEOPLE confirm Teresa Lynne Roth, 34, was arrested and charged with first-degree child cruelty Thursday following a months-long investigation that began last October. In October, the unnamed boy was removed from his parents’ care, according to local media reports.Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Scott Ware alleged to WSB-TV that the mom fabricated the boy’s conditions in order to receive a monthly disability check from the state.“They were receiving disability, but now that the child’s not in their custody, they’re not,” Ware said. The boy was confined to a wheelchair unnecessarily and he had a feeding tube inserted into his stomach, Ware alleged to the station. Investigators further allege he was put on a number of different medications he didn’t require and was strapped…
